Local Success at CSIS Cup

Date
25 June 2015

The summer solstice can mean a lot of different things for many people. But for disabled footballers from the South East, it means the opportunity to take part in the CSIS Cup held at the Gallagher Stadium, home of Maidstone Utd FC. Last Sunday (June 21st) 25 teams from across the region competed in the football tournament with the local Maidstone Raiders team picking up two titles.

CSIS staff cheered on the players from the side-lines, with Chief Executive Kevin Holliday presenting the trophy’s and medals at the tournaments conclusion.

Event organiser and head of Maidstone United’s Disability Football Lorraine Humm said: “The tournament was not only a great success but also a celebration of disability football here in Kent."
“You only had to see the excitement and enthusiasm of all the players to know how much playing in fun, competitive matches means to them."
Lorraine continued “My heartfelt thanks goes to CSIS. Without their sponsorship it would not have been possible to stage this event and it’s a mark of how much it means to them that Kevin Holliday and his family gave up their time on Father’s Day to come and present the medals. "
“I also want to thank the Kent Disability League, all the Maidstone United volunteers who set up the pitches and helped out on the day, and the referees who kept the day running smoothly.”

CSIS Chief Executive speaking at the event said “Congratulations to all the players today and to Lorraine for putting on such an excellent event. I am delighted that the support from CSIS has helped Maidstone Raiders grow significantly as a club and helped them to put on this fantastic tournament each year. I look forward to watching from the stands again next year”
